THE STARTER REPORTED: a) SPANISH GIRL (JP van der Merwe) was nervous in the stalls. b) CELTIC VIXEN (J Gates) jumped slow, losing two lengths and thereafter was slow into stride. c) BALLYCOTTON (M van Rensburg) was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) FIRST MINISTER (S Khumalo) pulled hard in the early stages. b) After being slow to begin CELTIC VIXEN (J Gates) proved difficult to settle in the early and middle stages and raced wide without cover on the turn and into the straight. c) Approaching the 1200m BALLYCOTTON (M van Rensburg) was allowed to race around the field and into a handy position. d) Jockey T Gould reported that GAETANA made an abnormal respiratory noise in running. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this filly. e) RACINANTE, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer JP Nel was advised.
