THE STARTER REPORTED: a) KING REGENT (K de Melo) reared repeatedly in the stalls, was taken out and reloaded. b) MY BESTIE (O Noach) jumped awkwardly with its head up. c) GEM KING (C Orffer) and KING REGENT (K de Melo) were slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) After leaving the parade ring correctly shod, GAINSFORD (A Andrews) cast its left front shoe on the way to the start which had to be replaced. b) SOMERSET MAUGHAM (G van Niekerk) was hanging out from the 400m, shifted out from the 200m and proved difficult to keep on a straight course. c) Approaching the 50m SUGAR MOUNTAIN (G Wright) was carried outwards marginally by KING REGENT (K de Melo), which was hanging out. d) An Inquiry will be held into Jockey A Andrew's (GAINSFORD) riding in the latter stages. e) In view of the performance of TRIPLE TIME (R Fourie), which raced wide on the turn and into the straight, the veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. f) In view of the report from the starter regarding KING REGENT (K de Melo), this gelding's starting stall certificate has been withdrawn and he is suspended for 7 days in terms of Rule 61.6.10 and until such time as he proves to be tractable with a companion. Suspension dates: 06/07/2023 to 12/07/2023, both dates inclusive). KING REGENT may not be presented for re-passing during this period. g) SOMERSET MAUGHAM, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer SJ Snaith was advised.
