BRAVE LASS lost 2 lengths. QUEEN OF BEAUTY (ARG) was stubborn to load. Assistant Trainer Roscoe acting on behalf of Trainer Kannemeyer advised to re-school this filly. BRAVE LASS dropped the bit at the 900m and became detached from the field. Thereafter, in the straight, this filly shifted out away from the crop, raced to the outside running rail and finished the race off strongly to finish on the heels of the placed runners. Jockey Kennedy appeared before the Board and was afforded the opportunity to place on record any factors which, in his opinion, lead to the poor performance of ALABAMA SLIDE. In this regard, he explained to the Board that, despite being well placed and travelling well into the race, when he asked ALABAMA SLIDE for a finishing effort in the straight, she had nothing to come. Consequently, he reported her as being amiss. In view of the Veterinary Surgeon's Report concerning ALABAMA SLIDE, Trainer Nel will be requested to report back on the condition of ALABAMA SLIDE upon return to the stables. Jockey Wright signed an admission of guilt for a contravention, read with Guideline M, in that he struck the horse SUMMER DAY more than 12 times in the entire race. The Board, in determining the penalty considered Jockey Wright's recent record with regard to contraventions of this Rule. Accordingly, a penalty was imposed. QUEEN OF BEAUTY ARG was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. DESERT SONG raced fitted with alumites. CONSOL QUEEN raced fitted with her tongue tied down and fitted with earmuffs. Vet: ALABAMA SLIDE - nothing obvious detected. DESERT SONG - coughing.
