THE STARTER REPORTED: a) GRAZINGINTHEGRASS (R Fourie) and CHERRY ANO (S Khumalo) were nervous in the stalls. b) FIRST STREET (C Maujean) was nervous in the stalls and thereafter was slow into stride. c) BOLD RESOLVE (F Herholdt) jumped with its head up and thereafter was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) In view of the performance of SAFARI BLUE (D Schwarz), which over raced in the early stages, the veterinary surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. b) Jockey J Gates was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that he misused his crop by striking SUPER SILVER more than 12 times in the entire race. Jockey J Gates signed an admission of guilt and was fined R10 000,00. In determining penalty, the Stewards took into account Jockey J Gates' record and the number of strikes (14). c) GRAZINGINTHEGRASS, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer AC Greeff was advised.
