THE STARTER REPORTED:
a) PENDERGRASS (K Matsunyane) jumped inwards leaving the stalls.
b) DIESEL'S SHADOW (*S Sosibo) and NO PLACE LIKE HOME (J P van der Merwe) jumped outwards leaving the stalls.
c) INSIGHTFUL (C Habib) was slow losing one length.
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED:
a) Shortly after the start, TOUCHED BY STARS (D Schwarz) was squeezed out between PENDERGRASS (K Matsunyane), which jumped inwards leaving the stalls, and POMO CLAPPER (J Gates), which was carried out by DIESEL'S SHADOW (*S Sosibo), which jumped outwards leaving the stalls.
b) PENDERGRASS (K Matsunyane) commenced to give to the field from the 350m.
c) UNCLE LUCKY (R Danielson) commenced to give ground to the field from the 400m. Thereafter, Jockey R Danielson reported that he felt something amiss with UNCLE LUCKY in running.
The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding.
d) TOP MAN (A Mgudlwa), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
Assistant Trainer S Paterson, acting on behalf of Trainer B H Stidolph, was advised (MS).
e) PURPLE PITCHER (G Lerena), scratched en route to the start, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis (AH).
JOCKEY CHANGES:
a) PENDERGRASS was ridden by Jockey K Matsunyane (declared 25 July 2023 at 13H23).
Stipes permission as Jockey J R Syster experienced transport complications.
RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER:
a) VOLTE FACE raced equipped with alumites in front and steel shoes behind (declared 19 July 2023 at 13H34).
b) PENDERGRASS raced with a tongue tie on (declared 25 July 2023 at 07H29).
THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED:
a) UNCLE LUCKY examined post race, nothing obvious detected.
b) PENDERGRASS abnormal respiratory noise.
