THE STARTER REPORTED:
a) BUTTERFLY QUEEN (J Gates) was nervous in the stalls.
b) OCEANS APART (D Ashby), RAGSAA (R Fourie) and PUBLIC BENEFIT (M Yeni) were slow into stride.
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED:
a) MERESANKH (L Mxothwa) proved difficult proceeding to the start and had to be led by a Handler, causing a delay. This filly is suspended indefinitely in terms of Rule 93.2.4 until such time as she proves tractable proceeding to the start on a race day.
b) FIRST MINISTER (D Schwarz) pulled hard in the early stages.
c) At the 500m Jockey R Fourie felt something amiss with RAGSAA and immediately eased this filly out of the race. Jockey R Fourie dismounted at the 400m and RAGSAA was attended to on course by the Veterinary Surgeon. As a result, Jockey R Fourie was unable to weigh in. In terms of Rule 66.2 the Stewards were satisfied that RAGSAA would have carried the correct weight.
d) CATCHUSIFYOUCAN (G van Niekerk) was hanging in from the 400m.
e) In the concluding stages GLOBAL AVENUE (A Andrews), which was hanging in, had to be steadied when close to the heels of PUBLIC BENEFIT (M Yeni), which rolled out marginally at the finish.
f) OCEANS APART (D Ashby) raced green.
g) Jockey K Steyn reported that KUNGFOO LIGHTNING made an abnormal respiratory noise in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly.
h) Jockey D Schwarz reported that FIRST MINISTER made an abnormal respiratory noise in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly.
i) PUBLIC BENEFIT, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer K Mitchley was advised. (LM)
