THE STARTER REPORTED:
a) Fair start.
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED:
a) Shortly after the start FLYING PETER (D Ashby) was bumped by RIMAAH (S Khathi), which was carried outwards by LIFE ON MARS (S Khumalo). Shortly thereafter, FLYING PETER (D Ashby) was bumped by EYJAFJALLAJOKULL (D Schwarz), which had jumped outwards, had to be corrected and then shifted in.
b) At the 150m PRINCE VIHAAN (M Mjoka) and LIFE ON MARS (S Khumalo) brushed when both horses shifted ground marginally.
c) Jockey G van Niekerk reported that KEEP IT SECRET did not stride out freely in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding.
d) Jockey R Khathi reported that RUSSIAN EMPIRE did not stride out freely in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this colt.
e) Jockey M Mjoka was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that he misused his crop by striking PRINCE VIHAAN more than 12 times in the entire race. Jockey M Mjoka signed an admission of guilt and was fined R2000,00. In determining penalty, the Stewards took into account Jockey M Mjoka's record and the number of strikes (13).
f) SON OF ZEUS, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer K Mitchley was advised. (LM)
