THE STARTER REPORTED: a) HAWK CIRCLE (G van Niekerk) was restless in the stalls, caught its right hind leg on the running board, was taken out, examined by the Veterinary Surgeon, passed suitable to race and reloaded, causing a delay. b) SAINT SILAS (D Ashby) was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) At the 1600m LORD FYFIELD (J Solomons) commenced to over race, raced onto the heels of LOCKHEEDLIGHTNING (O Noach) and got its head up for a number of strides while being steadied. b) At the 400m MARSHALL FIELD (C Orffer) briefly raced in restricted galloping room on the inside of DESTINY'S ANGEL (K Steyn). c) At the 150m RUN RUDOLPH RUN (L Mxothwa) rolled in and was brushed by MARSHALL FIELD (C Orffer), which rolled out marginally. Thereafter, MARSHALL FIELD (C Orffer) showed a tendency to hang outwards in the concluding stages. d) In view of the performance of JACKSWAY (C Bantam), which gave ground to the field from the 800m and finished tailed off, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. e) Jockey JP van der Merwe reported that TWICE TOLD made an abnormal respiratory noise in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. f) In view of the performance of HAWK CIRCLE (G van Niekerk) the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. g) In view of the performance of NAUSHON (R Fourie) (Betting 14/10; Distance 7.15) the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. h) In view of the report from the Starter regarding HAWK CIRCLE (G van Niekerk), Trainer SJ Snaith will be advised to have this gelding re-schooled prior to his next engagement in terms of Rule 61.6.10. i) SAINT SILAS, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
