THE STARTER REPORTED: a) ROCK OF AGES (*K A Brewer) was stubborn loading. b) MONDIAL (K Matsunyane) was restless in the stalls. c) VOLTE FACE (Wes Marwing) was slow losing one length. d) O'RYON (B Nyawo) was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) O'RYON (B Nyawo) over-raced in the early stages. b) Approaching the 400m, VOLTE FACE (Wes Marwing), which rolled in, was steadied momentarily in anticipation of being awkwardly placed between KIMBOLTON CASTLE (D Schwarz) and BREATH OF MAGIC (C Habib), which shifted in away from the crop. c) Jockey J P van der Merwe reported that INSIGHTFUL did not stride out freely in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. d) DIESEL'S SHADOW (G Lerena), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer E Verdonese advised (LK). JOCKEY CHANGES: None. RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER: a) VOLTE FACE raced equipped with alumites in front and steel shoes behind (declared 3 August 2023 at 14H16). THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED: a) INSIGHTFUL examined post race, nothing obvious detected. b) ROCK OF AGES brush wound right hind.
