THE STARTER REPORTED: a) ZEUS (G Lerena), BREEZE OVER (*M K Katjedi) and INDIAN WAR DANCE (K A Brewer) were slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Shortly after the start, SUPER SECRET (*D B Geerthsen) was encouraged forward to take up a leading position. Thereafter, this filly took hold of the bit, raced clear of the field and tired badly from the 400m. Apprentice D B Geerthsen appeared before the Board, in the presence of National Riding Master, Mr R Moore, and was questioned with regard to his ride. He explained that as per his instructions, he intended to race from the front, dictate the pace and create a lead by a length or two. However, going into the first turn, SUPER SECRET commenced to over-race, which resulted in him racing further clear of the field than he had intended. The Stewards advised Apprentice D B Geerthsen that his explanation would be recorded and that he needs to ride in a manner where there is no room for query from the Stewards. b) ZEUS (G Lerena), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer F P Habib advised (MduP). JOCKEY CHANGES: a) SUPER SECRET: Apprentice D B Geerthsen weighed out at 51.4 kg, not claiming his allowance and 1kg overweight as declared.
