THE STARTER REPORTED: a) ROCK OF AGES (M van Rensburg) jumped inwards leaving the stalls. b) AL BAYREG (F Herholdt) was slow losing three lengths. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) AL BAYREG (F Herholdt), after being slow away, failed to muster speed on debut and trailed the field throughout. b) Jockey C Habib (JET SPEED) did not persevere with his riding from the 500m. Thereafter, Jockey C Habib reported that he felt something amiss with JET SPEED in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this colt. c) At approximately the 100m, EIFFEL TOWER (P Mxoli) was carried in and brushed in by POCKET WATCH (G Lerena), which shifted in from the 150m. Thereafter, EIFFEL TOWER (P Mxoli) and POCKET WATCH (G Lerena) came together and brushed, as a consequence Jockey P Mxoli's (EIFFEL TOWER) crop was accidentally struck from his grasp. Shortly before the finish line, POCKET WATCH (G Lerena) was bumped outwards by EIFFEL TOWER (P Mxoli), which rolled out. An objection was lodged by Jockey G Lerena on behalf of the second-placed horse, POCKET WATCH, against the winner, EIFFEL TOWER, on the grounds of intimidation and bumping shortly before the finish line. The Board, after giving regard to the evidence presented by the relevant parties, as well as taking into consideration the initial inward movement by Jockey G Lerena, the proximity of the bumps to the finish line and the distance between the horses at the line of 0,20 lengths, was of the opinion that the result had not been affected by this incident. The Board overruled the Objection and allowed the Judges result to stand. Jockey G Lerena's deposit was refunded. d) EIFFEL TOWER (P Mxoli), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer S J Gray advised (LK). JOCKEY CHANGES: None.
