THE STARTER REPORTED: a) NEVER ENDING RAIN (L Mxothwa) and MACHETE MAN (G van Niekerk) were stubborn loading. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) NEVER ENDING RAIN took a number of awkward strides approaching the 300m and was immediately eased out of the race by Jockey L Mxothwa. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. b) In view of the performance of JACOB'S LADDER (C Zackey), which raced prominently in the early stages and tired quickly from the 600m, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. c) Jockey G van Niekerk reported that MACHETE MAN proved difficult to settle in the early stages and thereafter took no interest in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. d) MACHETE MAN (G van Niekerk) and GREAT AFFAIR (C Maujean) brushed at the 400m. e) Jockeys C Zackey and S Khathi, the riders of JACOB'S LADDER and WILDEST DREAMS respectively, were questioned regarding the tactics adopted in the early and middle stages of this race. Further evidence was heard from Trainer Z Oosthuizen. The Stewards have adjourned to consider the comments made and to give this matter further consideration. f) BOURNEMOUTH, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer AC Greeff was advised.
