THE STARTER REPORTED: a) TEXAS RED (*M K Katjedi) jumped awkwardly leaving the stalls. b) TEAM GOLD (D De Gouveia) was slow losing one length. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) UNION SQUARE (J P van der Merwe) and TEXAS RED (*M K Katjedi) brushed leaving the stalls. b) SHELDON (G Lerena) was bumped in by GODSWOOD (R Fourie), which jumped inwards leaving the stalls. c) GODSWOOD hung in from the 600m. Thereafter, Jockey R Fourie reported that he felt something amiss with this gelding in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. d) Jockey C Habib reported that FAR AWAY WINTER made an abnormal respiratory noise in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. e) QUANTUM THEORY (S Khumalo), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
