THE STARTER REPORTED: a) MANEKI NEKO (A Domeyer) was stubborn loading. b) SOOTY (D Ashby) was fractious and sat down in the stalls, was taken out, examined by the course Veterinary Surgeon and withdrawn, causing a delay. KLIP IN DIE BOS (O Noach) and GUARDING THE WALL (C Zackey), which were drawn on either side of SOOTY (D Ashby) were taken out, examined by the course Veterinary Surgeon and passed suitable to race. c) ISLAND MASTER (A Andrews) was fractious in the stalls, taken out, examined by the course Veterinary Surgeon and withdrawn. d) WARMHEARTOFAFRICA (B Fayd'Herbe) jumped slow, losing one length and thereafter was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) KING OF SPAIN (K Matsunyane) was hanging out on the turn and as a consequence, raced wide until entering the straight. b) In the concluding stages GUARDING THE WALL (C Zackey), which showed a tendency to hang in, was awkwardly placed close to the heels of KING OF SPAIN (K Matsunyane) and as a consequence, Jockey C Zackey was unable to ride his mount to the finish. c) Jockeys R Fourie and O Noach the riders of COLONEL GREEN and KLIP IN DIE BOS respectively, reported that these horses took no interest in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. d) In view of the report from the Starter regarding SOOTY (D Ashby), this gelding's starting stall certificate has been withdrawn and he is suspended for 7 days in terms of Rule 61.6.10 and until such time as he proves to be tractable with a companion. Suspension dates: 14/09/2023 to 20/09/2023 inclusive). SOOTY may not be presented for re-passing during this period. e) In view of the report from the Starter regarding MANEKI NEKO (A Domeyer), this colt's starting stall certificate has been withdrawn and he is suspended for 7 days in terms of Rule 61.6.10 and until such time as he proves to be tractable with a companion. Suspension dates: 14/09/2023 to 20/09/2023 inclusive). MANEKI NEKO may not be presented for re-passing during this period. f) Jockey JP van der Merwe was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that as the rider of SAIL THE SKY he misused his crop by striking SAIL THE SKY more than 12 times (14) which was not warranted when considering the circumstances of the race. Jockey JP van der Merwe signed an admission of guilt and was fined R4000,00. g) Jockey K Matsunyane was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that as the rider of KING OF SPIN he misused his crop by striking KING OF SPIN more than 12 times (14) which was not warranted when considering the circumstances of the race. Jockey K Matsunyane signed an admission of guilt and was fined R6000,00. h) SAIL THE SKY, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Assistant Trainer C Snaith, acting on behalf of Trainer SJ Snaith, was advised.
