THE STARTER REPORTED: a) ANYTIME CHAMP (M van Rensburg) was slow losing one length. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) VAR PARK (R Danielson) and WRITTEN IN STONE (*D B Geerthsen) proved difficult to settle in the early stages. b) WRITTEN IN STONE (*D B Geerthsen) hung out from the 200m. c) In the concluding stages, ANYTIME CHAMP (M van Rensburg) had to steady momentarily in anticipation of being awkwardly placed on the inside of WRITTENINTHESAND (M Yeni), which shifted in away from the crop and was straightened. d) Jockey J Gates reported that he felt something amiss with MEET THE CAPTAIN in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this mare. e) WRITTENINTHESAND (M Yeni), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer F P Habib advised (LK). When questioned regarding the improved performance of WRITTENINTHESAND, Trainer F P Habib explained to the Board that the refitting of the blinkers had accounted for this filly's improved performance. Trainer F P Habib has undertaken to race this filly similarly equipped in future. JOCKEY CHANGES: a) VAR PARK was ridden by Jockey R Danielson with the consent of all parties concerned (declared 18 September 2023 at 10H55). b) GIMME THE FLAME was ridden by Jockey K Matsunyane (declared 21 September 2023 at 08H43). RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER: a) GIMME ROYALTY raced without blinkers, pacifiers and a tongue tie (declared 21 September 2023 at 07H50).
