THE STARTER REPORTED:
a) PUTINS PROMISE (J Jacobs) was nervous in the stalls.
b) TEATRO (S Khathi) kicked the back gates of the starting stalls.
c) SLIM JANNIE (L Mxothwa) was nervous in the stalls and rushed the front gates.
d) WHATEVER NEXT (X Ndlovu) jumped slow, losing one length.
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED:
a) In view of the performance of SPRING HIGH (Y Ramzan) the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding.
b) Jockey M Yeni reported that he felt something amiss with ACORN and he did not persevere with his riding in the concluding stages. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding.
c) ACORN (M Yeni) returned with a bilateral epistaxis due to an exercise induced pulmonary haemorrhage and is suspended, for a period of 60 days, from racing in any race under the jurisdiction of The National Horseracing Authority of Southern Africa in terms of Rule 93.1. (Dr K Davis)
d) Jockey S Veale was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that as the rider of INHERIT THE RAIN he misused his crop by striking INHERIT THE RAIN more than 12 times (13) which was not warranted when considering the circumstances of the race. Jockey S Veale signed an admission of guilt and was fined R2000,00.
e) CLIFF TOP, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Assistant Trainer A Mtengwana, acting on behalf of Trainer AC Greeff, was advised. (LM)
