THE STARTER REPORTED: a) ANALYTIC dislodged Apprentice DB Geerthsen leaving the parade ring, was taken in hand, examined by the Veterinary Surgeon, passed suitable to race, was reunited with his rider and proceeded to the start, causing a delay b) KING VISERYS (R Fourie) proved difficult proceeding to the start and had to be led by a Handler. Trainer PAW Botha was advised that should this gelding behave in a similar manner in future engagements, he may be suspended. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Leaving the 400m OTIS THE BRAVE (J Solomons) and COSMIC CAPTAIN (C Zackey) brushed. Thereafter, at the 250m, COSMIC CAPTAIN (C Zackey) was unbalanced when bumped on the hindquarters by OTIS THE BRAVE (J Solomons), which rolled in. As a consequence, COSMIC CAPTAIN (C Zackey) then commenced to hang outwards, carried OTIS THE BRAVE (J Solomons) outwards and bumped OTIS THE BRAVE (J Solomons) on two occasions in the concluding stages. b) When questioned regarding the improved performance of MASTER OF PARIS (M Yeni), Assistant Trainer C Snaith told the Stewards that this gelding had been disappointing in its first three starts and that for this reason they had fitted blinkers for today's race. He further told the Stewards that, in his opinion, this gelding would have benefited from the lightweight of 52kgs carried today, this being an Open Maiden. The Stewards noted Assistant Trainer C Snaith's explanation and advised that this gelding should race similarly equipped in future races. c) Jockey A Andrews reported that he felt something amiss with MISTER LINCOLN. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. d) Jockey D de Gouveia was charged with a contravention of Rule 55.4 in that he failed to weigh out at the carded weight on ROGUE MALE, resulting in a change of rider. Jockey D de Gouveia signed an admission of guilt and was fined R1000.00. e) MASTER OF PARIS, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Assistant Trainer C Snaith, acting on behalf of Trainer SJ Snaith, was advised.
