THE STARTER REPORTED: a) BIG POPPA (L Mxothwa) proved difficult proceeding to the start and had to be led by a Handler. Trainer PP Kruyer was advised that should this gelding behave in a similar manner in future engagements, he may be suspended. b) BIG POPPA (L Mxothwa) and TOTHEMOONANDBACK (G van Niekerk) were slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Leaving the 300m KEEP SHINING (C Bantam) shifted in away from the crop and had to be straightened. b) Jockey R Fourie reported that EXCEEDER, which was hanging in in the latter stages, coughed post-race. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. c) Jockey D de Gouveia reported that GUY ALEXANDER did not stride out freely in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this horse. d) Jockey K Matsunyane reported that SAINT SILAS was blowing post-race. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. e) SAINT SILAS (K Matsunyane) returned with a bilateral epistaxis due to an exercise induced pulmonary haemorrhage and is suspended, for a period of 60 days, from racing in any race under the jurisdiction of The National Horseracing Authority of Southern Africa in terms of Rule 93.1. (Dr M Bawden) f) KATSU, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer L Woodruff was advised.
