THE STARTER REPORTED:
a) PASSCHENDAELE (G Wright) jumped awkwardly inwards.
b) JUST BE LEKKER (G Lerena) jumped outwards and made contact with CONNERY (R Danielson).
c) SPRING PALACE (L Mxothwa) reared shortly before the start was effected and lost significant ground.
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED:
a) The Stewards reviewed the start with regard to SPRING PALACE (L Mxothwa) in stall gate 14 and established that this gelding had reared shortly before the start was effected, which resulted in the Handler being unable to release this gelding immediately. As a consequence, SPRING PALACE (L Mxothwa) had lost significant ground. The Stewards, acting in terms of Rule 61.5.10.3 were satisfied that the loss of distance was as a consequence of this gelding's own behaviour. No further action was taken.
b) After jumping awkwardly PASSCHENDAELE (G Wright) had to be steadied when close to the heels of CONNERY (R Danielson) shortly after the start.
c) JUST BE LEKKER (G Lerena) was squeezed out shortly after the start.
d) GIRL LIKE US (G van Niekerk) pulled hard in the early and middle stages.
e) TAIL OF THE COMET (R Fourie) raced wide without cover on the early part of the turn.
f) Jockey A Domeyer reported that MONUMENTAL did not stride out freely in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding.
g) Jockey C Zackey reported that LILY OF THE NILE made an abnormal respiratory noise in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly.
h) In view of the report from the Starter regarding SPRING PALACE (L Mxothwa) this gelding's starting stall certificate has been withdrawn and he is suspended for 7 days in terms of Rule 61.6.10 and until such time as he proves to be tractable with a companion. (Suspension dates: 22/10/2023 to 28/10/2023 inclusive). SPRING PALACE may not be presented for re-passing during this period.
i) TAIL OF THE COMET, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer SG Tarry was advised. (WM)
j) JUST BE LEKKER, the second-placed horse, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer C Dawson was advised. (DD)
