THE STARTER REPORTED: a) STATESMAN (D De Gouveia) jumped sharply inwards leaving the stalls. b) NKANDLA GOLD (*D B Geerthsen) jumped awkwardly leaving the stalls. c) CHARGE AHEAD (Wes Marwing) was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) After jumping sharply inwards and racing prominently throughout, STATESMAN (D De Gouveia) tired badly in the concluding stages. In view of this report, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. b) Approaching the 400m, BREGARDT (*T Mayhew) was carried in marginally by ACT OF POWER (N Klink), which shifted in off the heels of STATESMAN (D De Gouveia), which had come to the end of its run. c) Between the 300m and 200m, when racing in close proximity, MARQUEZ (M Yeni) and WALLED GARDEN (P Strydom) came together and brushed on two occasions. d) NKANDLA GOLD (*D B Geerthsen) commenced to give ground to the field in the concluding stages. e) WALLED GARDEN (P Strydom), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
