THE STARTER REPORTED:
a) THUNEE PLAYA (S Moodley) jumped inwards leaving the stalls.
b) EMBLEM OF WAR (M Yeni) jumped outwards leaving the stalls.
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED:
a) LIBERTY FLAG (J Gates) proved reluctant to canter to the start and had to be led. Trainer S M Naidoo was advised that should this filly behave in a similar manner in future, she may be suspended.
b) Shortly after the start, EMBLEM OF WAR (M Yeni), which jumped outwards leaving the stalls, and THUNEE PLAYA (S Moodley), which jumped inwards leaving the stalls, came together and bumped.
c) Approaching the 400m, I SPIED (S Khumalo) broke down and was eased out of the race. As a consequence of this, BLACKBERRY BREEZE (P Strydom) was directed in away from I SPIED (S Khumalo). Thereafter, NO PLACE LIKE HOME (J P van der Merwe) was bumped out by I SPIED (S Khumalo), which continued to be eased out of the race.
d) In view of the performance of DHONI (C Habib), (distance 6,50 lengths, betting 9/4), the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this colt.
e) Jockey J P van der Merwe reported that he felt something amiss with NO PLACE LIKE HOME in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding.
f) JURY'S OUT (G Lerena), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
Assistant Trainer T Dawson, acting on behalf of Trainer C Dawson, was advised (LK).
g) TWENTY DRACHMA'S (P Mxoli), placed second, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Assistant Trainer N Titise, acting on behalf of Trainer S T Pettigrew, was advised (MS).
h) THUNEE PLAYA (S Moodley), placed third, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis (AH).
JOCKEY CHANGES:
a) LIBERTY FLAG raced with a tongue tie on (declared 4 November 2023 at 08H26).
RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER:
None.
THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED:
a) DHONI coughing post race.
b) NO PLACE LIKE HOME examined post race, nothing obvious detected.
c) I SPIED broke down left front fetlock. Humanely euthanased. Specimens collected for analysis.
