THE STARTER REPORTED: a) GUERRA (R Fourie) was fractious in the stalls and broke free from the Handlers while being removed from the stalls in order to facilitate a veterinary inspection. Thereafter, GUERRA (R Fourie) bolted back to the saddling area and was subsequently withdrawn, causing a delay. b) DUKE OF ORANGE (E Webber) jumped slow, losing two lengths. c) PEDRO (D Ashby), ARTURO (X Ndlovu) and PHANTOMOFTHEFOREST (C Maujean) jumped slow, losing one length. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) At the 500m PEDRO (D Ashby) brushed the inside running rail, rolled out and made contact with DUKE OF ORANGE (E Webber). b) WATCH TOWER (D Schwarz) and DUKE OF ORANGE (E Webber) were hanging in in the straight. c) Jockey C Maujean reported that, in his opinion, the performance of PHANTOMOFTHEFOREST was disappointing. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. d) In view of the report from the Starter regarding GUERRA (R Fourie), this gelding's starting stall certificate has been withdrawn and he is suspended for 7 days in terms of Rule 61.6.10 and until such time as he proves to be tractable with a companion. (Suspension dates: 20/12/2023 to 26/12/2023 inclusive). GUERRA may not be presented for re-passing during this period. e) AMERICAN DREAM, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer GD Smith was advised.
