THE STARTER REPORTED: a) MRS SHACKLETON (A Arries) was restless and reared in the stalls, caught it's left-side back leg on the running board, was taken out, examined by the course Veterinary Surgeon and withdrawn, causing a delay. b) SIMPLY BEAUTIFUL (R Fourie) and WEHAVEASITUATION (O Noach) made contact leaving the stalls. c) PRINCESS RAYA (K Steyn) and COSMIC ENERGY (S Veale) were slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) SILENT WHISPERER (D Ashby) proved difficult proceeding to the start and had to be led by a Handler. Trainer JMT Stewart was advised that should this filly behave in a similar manner in future engagements, she may be suspended. b) Jockey R Danielson reported that he felt something amiss with FANNY KEMBLE. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly. c) Jockey C Orffer reported that after racing prominently, PUSHING LIMITS had failed to respond to his urgings from the 400m. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly. d) In view of the report from the Starter regarding MRS SHACKLETON (A Arries), this filly's starting stall certificate has been withdrawn and she is suspended for 7 days in terms of Rule 61.6.10 and until such time as she proves to be tractable with a companion. (Suspension dates: 28/12/2023 to 03/01/2024 inclusive). MRS SHACKLETON may not be presented for re-passing during this period. e) ROYAL LYTHAM, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer AN Marcus was advised. (WM) JOCKEY AND/OR EQUIPMENT CHANGES: a) PRINCESS RAYA raced with blinkers (declared 10h51 on 20231226) b) ESSENTIAL raced with blinkers (declared 10h31 on 20231222) c) K Steyn (PRINCESS RAYA) rode +1.5kg of which 1kg was carded (53.1kgs) d) G Wright (ROYAL LYTHAM) rode +1kg of which 0.5kg was carded (52.8kgs) e) JP van der Merwe (JET GREEN) rode +1kg of which 0.5kg was carded (52.9kgs) RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER a) Nil THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED: a) MRS SHACKLETON - abrasion right hip b) FANNY KEMBLE - examined post-race. Not striding out right hind & abnormal respiratory noise c) PUSHING LIMITS - examined post-race. Nothing obvious detected.
