THE STARTER REPORTED:
a) BOHEMIAN GROVE dislodged Jockey D Ashby after parading, cantered to the start, was taken in hand, examined by the course Veterinary Surgeon and passed suitable to race.
b) BOHEMIAN GROVE (D Ashby) was stubborn loading, causing a delay.
c) KAAPSE HOOP (JP van der Merwe) was restless in the stalls.
d) PEREGRINE FALCON (G van Niekerk) and GREEN MILE (C Orffer) were slow into stride.
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED:
a) MC CONAGALL (L Mxothwa), which raced green, raced very awkwardly between the 700m and 400m and was not persevered with in the latter stages. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this colt.
b) AMBER ROCK (R Fourie) commenced to hang out and shifted out continually to the finish despite the efforts of Jockey R Fourie to keep this filly on a straight course.
c) In view of the report from the Starter regarding BOHEMIAN GROVE (D Ashby), this gelding's starting stall certificate has been withdrawn and he is suspended for 7 days in terms of Rule 61.6.10 and until such time as he proves to be tractable to load with a companion. (Suspension dates: 31/12/2023 to 06/01/2024 inclusive). BOHEMIAN GROVE may not be presented for re-passing during this period.
d) Jockey RA Venniker was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.3 in that she failed to ride CAPTAIN COOL out to the end of the race to the satisfaction of the Stipendiary Stewards. Jockey RA Venniker signed an Admission of Guilt and was fined R1 000.00. In determining penalty, the Stewards considered the distance between WINNING CAPTAIN (C Bantam) and CAPTAIN COOL (RA Venniker) (0.30 lengths) and were satisfied that Jockey RA Venniker had not prejudiced her chances of obtaining 4th place.
e) AMBER ROCK, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer A Azzie was advised. (WM)
