THE STARTER REPORTED: a) PIROSHKA (A Andrews) was restless in the stalls. b) WECANGOALLNIGHT (S Veale) jumped with its head up and thereafter was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) After leaving the parade ring correctly shod, GIMME'S LASSIE (R Fourie) lifted its left front shoe on the way to the start, which had to be re-fitted. b) On entering the straight, all Riders elected to direct their mounts to the outside of the racecourse. c) Approaching the 200m GIMME'S LASSIE (R Fourie) was steadied when tightened for galloping room between the outside running rail and LIGHT SPEED (L Mxothwa), which was hanging out, shifted out and was immediately straightened. WE'RE JAMMING (JP van der Merwe), which was following, was directed inwards as a consequence. After this incident, GIMME'S LASSIE (R Fourie) was not persevered with. d) Jockey R Fourie (GIMME'S LASSIE) appeared before the Board and was advised that while the Stewards accept that his mount had been inconvenienced at the 200m, he still has an obligation to ride his mounts to the finish. e) At the 200m PIROSHKA (A Andrews), which showed a tendency to hang out, was directed inwards away from the heels of PROMETTERE (A Arries), which rolled in marginally. f) Jockey A Arries was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that as the rider of PROMETTERE he misused his crop by striking PROMETTERE more than 12 times (13) which was not warranted when considering the circumstances of the race. Jockey A Arries signed an admission of guilt and was fined R2000,00. g) PROMETTERE, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer VH Marshall was advised.
