On Thursday 8 August 2019, following 17mm of rain in the last 24 hours and 28mm in the last 7 days, with more rain forecast, there were concerns that Durbanville Racecourse would not dry out sufficiently, and Kenilworth Racing (Pty) Ltd moved the Race Meeting scheduled to take place at Durbanville Racecourse today, to Kenilworth Racecourse. Races 2, 3, 7 and 8, all programmed over 1250m were reduced to the distance of 1200m to accommodate the venue change. BOLLINGER was slow losing one length and thereafter was slow into stride. CAPTAIN TURK was slow into stride. Jockey van Rensburg reported that ALL BLACK made an abnormal respiratory noise and did not stride out freely in running, as a result he did not persevere with his riding from the 150m. MATCHLESS CAPTAIN was hanging out from the 450m. CAPTAIN TURK raced green and shifted in sharply away from the crop at the 150m and was straightened immediately. When questioned regarding the improved performance from PSYCHEDELIC today compared to its first two starts both over 1200m, when it had finished 11.15 lengths and 10.45 lengths behind the winners, Trainer Snaith told the Stewards that it had benefitted from being gelded after its last race. The Board noted his explanation. In view of the performance from AL BRAGGA, which raced green, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine the colt on its return to the unsaddling enclosure and submit a report. PSYCHEDELIC and CAPTAIN TURK were selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Vet: ALL BLACK - returned making an abnormal respiratory noise and was not striding out. BOLLINGER - returned making an abnormal respiratory noise. AL BRAGGA - returned lame on the right fore.
