THE STARTER REPORTED:
a) MILLIONDOLLAR GIRL (G Wright) was fractious in the stalls, reared, turned around and broke through the back gates, bolted back to the parade ring and was withdrawn by the course Veterinary Surgeon.
b) Shortly after this incident, the stall gates opened for no apparent reason, resulting in MISS WINTER (R Danielson), MRS SHACKLETON (K Steyn) and LISTENTOTHEOCEAN (G van Niekerk) dislodging their jockeys. Jockey R Danielson retained hold of MISS WINTER, returned to the start, was examined by the course Veterinary Surgeon and passed suitable to race. Both MRS SHACKLETON (K Steyn) and LISTENTOTHEOCEAN (G van Niekerk) bolted riderless back to the parade ring and were withdrawn by the course Veterinary Surgeon. This incident was reported to the Racing Operator.
c) OPERA VERSE (C Zackey) jumped slow, losing two lengths.
d) TERESA MENDOZA (JP van der Merwe) and LEAD TO GLORY (R Fourie) made contact leaving the stalls.
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED:
a) After being slow to begin, Jockey C Zackey reported that OPERA VERSE, which trailed the field throughout, took no interest in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly.
b) In view of the report from the Starter regarding MILLIONDOLLAR GIRL (G Wright), this filly's starting stall certificate has been withdrawn and she is suspended for 7 days in terms of Rule 61.6.10 and until such time as she proves to be tractable with a companion. (Suspension dates: 16/01/2024 to 22/01/2024 inclusive). MILLIONDOLLAR GIRL may not be presented for re-passing during this period.
c) DAME OF TRIX, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer B Crawford was advised. (WM)
d) TEQUILA SKY, the second-placed horse, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer WA Nel was advised. (WM)
