THE STARTER REPORTED: a) TO THE RESCUE (G Lerena) was slow losing two lengths. b) HEPHAESTUS (*M K Katjedi) was slow losing one length. c) THUNEE PLAYA (S Moodley) was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) TO THE RESCUE (G Lerena) hung out from the 500m. b) HEPHAESTUS (*M K Katjedi) commenced to give ground to the field from the 400m. c) Jockey K Matsunyane felt something amiss with FESTIVAL OF MAGIC in running and eased this gelding out of the race at the 300m. Thereafter, Jockey K Matsunyane reported that he felt something amiss with FESTIVAL OF MAGIC in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. d) At approximately the 200m, JUDGEMENT DAY (C Habib) was steadied momentarily in anticipation of being awkwardly placed between DARK SILVER (D De Gouveia), which shifted out away from the crop, and TAXHAVEN (R Munger), which hung in from the 300m. e) Jockey G Lerena was dislodged from TO THE RESCUE, which ducked in sharply shortly after the finish. This precluded Jockey G Lerena from weighing in. The Board, acting in terms of Rule 66.2, deemed his weight to be correct. f) THUNEE PLAYA (S Moodley), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Stable Employee M Pandaram, acting on behalf of Trainer L Karriem, was advised (MS). JOCKEY CHANGES: a) TAXHAVEN was ridden by Jockey R Munger (declared 19 January 2024 at 12H20). RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER: None. THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED: a) MASTER TIK TOK fatigued. b) FESTIVAL OF MAGIC severe post race distress. THERE WERE NO SCRATCHINGS.
