THE STARTER REPORTED: a) FEARLESS BADGER (S Khumalo) jumped awkwardly, losing one length. b) WHATCHMYTAIL (K Steyn) jumped slow, losing one length. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Due to the delay in the previous race and the thirty-minute interval between races, the Stewards instructed the Riders to proceed directly to the start and not parade in front of the grandstand. b) HAT'S MIRACLE (K Minnie) proved difficult proceeding to the start and while being led riderless, broke loose, bolted back to the parade ring, was examined by the course Veterinary Surgeon and withdrawn, causing a further delay. c) HAT'S MIRACLE (K Minnie) is suspended indefinitely in terms of Rule 93.2.4 until such time as she proves tractable proceeding to the start on a race day. d) AND IT'S OVER (J Gates) was hanging in from the 600m. e) The saddle on MENTALITY MONSTER (M Yeni) slipped back in running. This was confirmed by a Stipendiary Steward. f) Jockey D Schwarz reported that DUKE ORSINO did not stride out freely in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this colt. g) In view if the performance of ALLEGRA ROSE (Y Ramzan), the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly. h) When questioned regarding the apparent improved performance of SLAINTE MHATH (X Ndlovu) compared to this gelding's previous run on 5 January 2024, Trainer SB Kotzen told the Stewards that this gelding was having its first run after being gelded and a rest. For today's race, she had fitted cheek pieces to this gelding and as this was a Maiden Handicap, SLAINTE MHATH was favourably weighted which, in her opinion, accounted for the improved performance. Trainer SB Kotzen's explanation was noted and she was advised to run this gelding similarly equipped in future engagements. i) SLAINTE MHATH, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer SB Kotzen was advised.
