THE STARTER REPORTED: a) POTENT CAPTAIN (D Schwarz) was restless in the stalls, taken out and reloaded. b) LORD CAPULET (K Steyn) was restless in the stalls and jumped slow, losing one length. c) RUN FOR ME (S Khumalo) jumped slow, losing one length. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) After being ridden along in the early stages 'O CAPTAIN (R Khathi) was awkwardly placed between MO FLOW (*KJ Lihaba) and DINA AROBI (K Minnie) and had to be steadied at the 1100m. b) RUN FOR ME (S Khumalo) was hanging in in the straight. c) At the 50m MO FLOW (*KJ Lihaba) was momentarily inconvenienced when awkwardly placed on the inside of SILENT WHISPERER (X Ndlovu), which rolled in marginally. d) Jockey D Schwarz reported that he felt something amiss with POTENT CAPTAIN. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. e) In view of the report from the Starter regarding POTENT CAPTAIN (D Schwarz), Trainer DA McKenzie will be advised to have this gelding re-schooled prior to his next engagement in terms of Rule 61.6.10. f) Jockey R Khathi was charged with a contravention of Rule 55.4 in that he failed to weigh out at the carded weight on 'O CAPTAIN, or at the higher weight confirmed in his engagement with the Trainer. Jockey R Khathi signed an admission of guilt and was fined R5 000.00. In determining penalty, the Stewards considered Jockey R Khathi's record with regard to contraventions of this rule and have further advised Jockey R Khathi that should he continue to be unable to weigh out at the carded weight or at the higher weight confirmed in his engagement with the Trainer, a riding weight restriction will be considered. g) SILENT WHISPERER, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer SB Kotzen was advised. (LM) JOCKEY AND/OR EQUIPMENT CHANGES: a) R Khathi ('O CAPTAIN) rode +1.5kg (57.3kgs) The Stewards, in consultation with Stable Employee E Griebenow, acting on behalf of Trainer JVA Strydom, allowed this overweight in terms of Rule 59.9. b) R Fourie (WESTERN JACK) rode +1kg of which 0.5kgs was carded (55.4kgs) RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER a) Nil THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED: a) POTENT CAPTAIN - examined post-race.
