THE STARTER REPORTED: a) CAYENNE PEPPER (+S Tshezi) was stubborn loading. Stable Employee J Nosasa, acting on behalf of Trainer S G Tarry, was advised to reschool this gelding prior to his next engagement (GT). b) OKLAHOMA TWISTER (+T Lukhele) jumped inwards leaving the stalls. c) BREATH OF MAGIC (+V Sithetho), CAYENNE PEPPER (+S Tshezi), HIGHVELD STORM (+T Matsoele), ISIQALABA (+S Mkhumbuzi), MONTE BELLO (+G Dadamasi) were slow losing one length. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Shortly after the start, CAYENNE PEPPER (+S Tshezi) and ISIQALABA (+S Mkhumbuzi) were bumped inwards by OKLAHOMA TWISTER (+T Lukhele), which jumped awkwardly inwards leaving the stalls. b) Shortly after the start, BATTLE OF GERGOVIA (+A Feni) was unbalanced and had its hind quarters turned inwards when bumped by HIGHVELD STORM (+T Matsoele), which was carried inwards by DUKE OF ARGYLL (+S Mosia), which in turn was carried in by GUARDIA REGINE (+P Mongqawa), which shifted in when insufficiently clear. Work Rider P Mongqawa was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7 in that he, as the rider of GUARDIA REGINE, failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to runners on his inside when he shifted in shortly after the start. Work Rider P Mongqawa signed an Admission of Guilt and is suspended from riding in races for one (1) Work Rider Race. Suspension date: 22 February 2024. c) CAYENNE PEPPER (+S Tshezi) raced wide around the turn and into the straight. d) Work Rider V Sithetho was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that he, as the rider of BREATH OF MAGIC, misused his crop by striking this gelding more than twelve times (15) which was not warranted when considering the circumstances of the race. Work Rider V Sithetho signed an Admission of Guilt and is suspended from riding in two (2) Work Rider races. Date of Suspension: 22 February 2024 and 7 March 2024. e) Work Rider S Mosia reported that DUKE OF ARGYLL made an abnormal respiratory noise in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. f) GUARDIA REGINE (P Mongqawa), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer R Klaasen advised (MduP). WORK RIDER CHANGES: None. RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER: a) DUKE OF ARGYLL raced equipped with blinkers and a tongue tie on (declared 5 February 2024 at 09H00). b) POMO CLAPPER raced equipped with alumites in front and unshod behind (declared 7 February 2024 at 10H17). THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED: a) CAYENNE PEPPER cut into left front. b) DUKE OF ARGYLL examined post race, nothing obvious detected. c) HIGHVELD STORM choked up and severe post race distress.
