THE STARTER REPORTED:
a) RUSSIAN EMPIRE (J Gates) was examined by the course Veterinary Surgeon and withdrawn, causing a delay.
b) JAQUAR CAT (K Steyn) was stubborn loading and jumped slow, losing one length.
c) BRIDGERTON (D Schwarz) was restless in the stalls.
d) THE CHARIOTEER (X Ndlovu) was slow into stride.
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED:
a) Shortly after the start, MEENEERA (Y Ramzan) had to be steadied briefly when close to the heels of THE CHARIOTEER (X Ndlovu), which was directed inwards to obtain a position closer to the inside rail when not quite clear. Jockey X Ndlovu appeared before the Board, was shown the patrol film and advised to ensure that he is sufficiently clear of other runners in similar circumstances.
b) Leaving the100m GUERRA (R Fourie), which showed a tendency to hang inwards, had to be steadied when unable to secure clear running between CHARLIE MALONE (C Zackey) and BRIDGERTON (D Schwarz).
c) KING OF SEVILLE stumbled shortly after the finish and dislodged Jockey Wes Marwing. Jockey Marwing was attended on to on course by the paramedics and was sent to the medical room for further observation. This precluded Jockey W Marwing from weighing in. The Stewards, acting in terms of Rule 66.2, were satisfied that KING OF SEVILLE had carried the correct weight.
d) Trainer E Kaknis was charged with a contravention of Rule 57.1.2 in that he failed to ensure that RUSSIAN EMPIRE was presented in the security area at least 60 minutes before the official starting time of the fifth (5th) race. Trainer E Kaknis signed Admission of Guilt and was fined R1 000,00.
e) HAWK CIRCLE, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer K Mitchley was advised. (LM)
