THE STARTER REPORTED:
a) ARCHIMIDES (D Schwarz) jumped inwards leaving the stalls.
b) ARIVIDICIO (K Matsunyane), CERULEAN DANCER (M Yeni) and GREEN SCEPTRE (C Maujean) were
slow into stride.
c) Shortly after the start, GOLDEN PAVILION (D De Gouveia) and VIVA DE JANEIRO (C Habib) came together and bumped.
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED:
a) As the start was effected, KING RAHUL (M van Rensburg) and LIBECCIO (R Munger) were bumped in by ARCHIMIDES (D Schwarz), which jumped inwards sharply leaving the stalls.
b) At approximately the 400m, Jockey D Schwarz felt something amiss with ARCHIMIDES and eased this gelding out of the race. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding.
c) Jockey P Mxoli reported that MANDALAY did not stride out freely in running.
The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this mare.
d) Jockey R Munger was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that he, as the rider of LIBECCIO, misused his crop by striking this gelding more than twelve times (15) which was not warranted when considering the circumstances of the race.
Jockey R Munger signed an Admission of Guilt and a fine of R7500 was imposed.
e) LIBECCIO (R Munger), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
Trainer T Zackey advised (MduP).
When questioned regarding the poor performance of LIBECCIO on 25 January 2024, Trainer T Zackey could offer the Board no suitable explanation. His attention was drawn to the Rules pertaining to In and Out running.
JOCKEY CHANGES:
a) GREEN SCEPTRE was ridden by Jockey C Maujean (declared 22 February 2024 at 09H21).
b) MANDALAY was ridden by Jockey P Mxoli (declared 22 February 2024 at 08H45).
c) VIVA DE JANEIRO: Jockey C Habib weighed out at 54,8kg, 0,5kg over the carded weight.
RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER:
a) VIVA DE JANEIRO raced with a tongue tie on (declared 22 February 2024 at 07H17).
THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED:
a) ARCHIMIDES examined post race, nothing obvious detected. Veterinary report required prior to racing. Rule 49.7 applies.
b) MANDALAY examined post race, nothing obvious detected.
c) VIVA DE JANEIRO stirrup rub on the right side.
d) GREEN SCEPTRE abnormal respiratory noise; mouth injury.
THERE WERE NO SCRATCHINGS.
