THE STARTER REPORTED:
a) BATTLE OF KURSK (R Fourie) refused to load and was withdrawn.
b) SMART VIEW (Y Ramzan) was slow into stride.
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED:
a) Due to the late scratching of BATTLE OF KURSK (R Fourie) (Betting 14/10), the start of this race was delayed to allow the betting public time to restructure their bets.
b) SIGNOR VANGELO (R Danielson) proved difficult proceeding to the start and had to be led by a Handler. Trainer TJ Laing was advised that should this gelding behave in a similar manner in future engagements, it may be suspended.
c) While racing into the turn at the 1100m, TOP DOLLAR (D Schwarz) raced tight between the inside running rail and SEETHEBADGE (*DB Geerthsen), which was carried inwards by SIGNOR VANGELO (R Danielson), which was hanging in. Shortly thereafter, SIGNOR VANGELO (R Danielson) was bumped outwards by SEETHEBADGE (*DB Geerthsen), which was directed outwards to allow sufficient room for TOP DOLLAR (D Schwarz), which was racing on its inside. As a consequence, SEETHEBADGE (*DB Geerthsen) raced wide on the early part of the turn and SIGNOR VANGELO (R Danielson) raced wide until entering the straight.
d) In view of the report from the Starter regarding BATTLE OF KURSK (R Fourie), this gelding's starting stall certificate has been withdrawn and he is suspended for 7 days in terms of Rule 61.6.10 and until such time as he proves to be tractable to load with a companion. (Suspension dates: 24/02/2024 to 01/03/2024 inclusive). BATTLE OF KURSK may not be presented for re-passing during this period.
e) DESTINY'S ANGEL, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Assistant Trainer AC Smith, acting on behalf of Trainer GD Smith, was advised. (LM)
