THE STARTER REPORTED: a) WE'RE JAMMING (JP van der Merwe) jumped slow, losing one length and thereafter was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) At the 200m BEREAVE (C Orffer), which was hanging out, was brushed on the hindquarters by COSMIC HIGHWAY (C Zackey). Thereafter BEREAVE (C Orffer), which continued to hang out, shifted out slightly and brushed COSMIC HIGHWAY (C Zackey) at the 100m. b) Leaving the 200m, WATERBERRY LANE (S Veale) was carried in and was briefly crowded for galloping room on the inside of SILVER FALCON (G van Niekerk), which shifted in. Shortly after this incident, SILVER FALCON (G van Niekerk) was steadied and then switched out to continue its run in anticipation of the available run between THUNDERSTRUCK (R Fourie) and FUTURE VARIETY (M Winnaar) closing. Jockey G van Niekerk appeared before the Board, was shown this incident and was advised that he needs to ensure that he is not an influence on other horses and riders in races. He was further advised that his race riding record concerning interference is poor and if he continues to show a disregard for his fellow riders and horses, more severe penalties will be instituted against him. c) Jockey G van Niekerk reported that SILVER FALCON did not stride out freely in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. d) Jockey D Muscutt (RIO QUERARI) appeared before the Board and was shown the patrol film, where it was pointed out to him that he had ceased with his riding abruptly before the finish line. The Stewards advised him that, in their opinion, he had not compromised his final finishing position by stopping with his riding and that it appeared that he had misjudged the position of the finish line. Mr Muscutt conceded that this observation was factual. The Stewards advised him to ensure that he rides to the finish line. e) THUNDERSTRUCK, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer SG Tarry was advised. (WM) f) FUTURE VARIETY, the second-placed horse, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer C Bass-Robinson was advised. (WM) JOCKEY AND/OR EQUIPMENT CHANGES: a) Nil RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER a) Nil THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED: a) SILVER FALCON - examined post-race. Nothing obvious detected b) FUTURE VARIETY - scalp wound left hind SCRATCHED: a) SURJAY - abscess left hind. Rule 53.5 applied (declared 08h04 on 20240224)
