THE STARTER REPORTED: a) BLUE QUARTZ (*T Mayhew) jumped outwards leaving the stalls. b) BREATH OF MAGIC (R Munger) and HEPHAESTUS (*N Nastili) were slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Following the running of Race 8, a number of Riders' raised concerns regarding the condition of the track around the turn. Prior to the running of Race 10, it was agreed that the 5m false rail would be removed to ensure they raced in better going around the turn. The Riders accepted this proposal, and as such the track staff attended to the Rail. b) Following the running of Race 9, a number of Riders raised concerns regarding the level of kick back in the straight and advised the Stewards that they were not comfortable with the state of the track, and as such did not want to complete their engagement in Race 10. Due to the paucity of available Riders', IN A BLUE MOON and RUSSIAN LOTUS were withdrawn due to no replacement Riders' being available. c) JABBERWOCKY (L Mxothwa) proved reluctant to canter to the start. Trainer D Nieuwenhuizen was advised that should this colt behave in a similar manner in future, he may be suspended. d) Jockey M Yeni, the rider of ERIMITAGE, briefly lost the footing to his left-side stirrup iron shortly on exiting the starts. e) ERIMITAGE (M Yeni) took an awkward stride at the 700m. f) Apprentice N Nastili, the rider of HEPHAESTUS, appeared before the Board and was advised against the practice of using his crop on a horse that is out of contention for a place. g) JUDGEMENT DAY (C Habib), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer A P Peter advised (MS). h) ROSSORE FINALE (G Lerena), placed second, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer W C Marwing advised (MduP). Race 10 contd. JOCKEY CHANGES: a) BREATH OF MAGIC was ridden by Jockey R Munger (declared 2 March 2024 at 17H37). Stipes permission as Jockey S Moodley had a flight to catch. b) BLUE QUARTZ: Apprentice T Mayhew weighed out at 54,5kg, only claiming 2,5kg of his 4kg apprentice allowance of which 1kg of overweight was declared. RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER: a) ROSSORE FINALE raced with a tongue tie on (declared 29 February 2024 at 08H33). b) BOMPAS raced with a tongue tie on (declared 2 March 2024 at 06H11).
