THE STARTER REPORTED: a) FLYING COOL (C F Dicken) lost 1 length. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED : a) Between the 350m and the 50m PLETTENBERG (R A Venniker) was bumped and unbalanced on a number of occasions, and was carried outwards by TERIYAKI (J Jacobs) which was hanging out badly and shifted out, proving difficult to assist. Thereafter, shortly before the finish TERIYAKI (J Jacobs) and PLETTENBERG (R A Venniker) came together and brushed. During this incident STAR OF THE FUTURE (C Habib) was switched to the inside of TERIYAKI (J Jacobs) to continue its run. A race review was called into this incident by a Stipendiary Steward, which was followed by an objection being lodged by Jockey R A Venniker on behalf of PLETTENBERG (R A Venniker) (placed third) against TERIYAKI (J Jacobs) (the winner) on the grounds of interference from the 400m. After considering the evidence in this matter, the Board was of the view that had this incident not occurred PLETTENBERG (R A Venniker) would have finished ahead of TERIYAKI (J Jacobs) and therefore upheld the objection and amended the Judges' result. In arriving at this decision, the Board considered the extent of the interference and the distance between PLETTENBERG (R A Venniker) and TERIYAKI (J Jacobs) at the finish. Jockey Venniker's deposit was refunded. b) TERIYAKI (J Jacobs), placed third, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer A J Rivalland advised (DZ).
