THE STARTER REPORTED: a) LADY MISTICO (M Winnaar) jumped slow, losing one length. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) After leaving the parade ring correctly shod, LADY MISTICO cast its left front shoe on the way to the start which had to be replaced, causing a delay. b) STRAWBERRY STINGER (M Mjoka) proved difficult to settle in the early stages, raced to the front of the field and compounded from the 400m. Jockey M Mjoka appeared before the Board and was questioned regarding his riding of STRAWBERRY STINGER. Jockey M Mjoka told the Board that his instructions were to jump on terms and race in a handy position. Thereafter, STRAWBERRY STINGER took hold of the bit and he was unable to restrain this gelding, which resulted in this horse over racing in the early and middle stages. Jockey M Mjoka stated that, in his opinion, this gelding would be better suited to sprint races. The Stewards noted his explanation. c) CARRIACOU (D Ashby), which was hanging out from the 200m, was carried in marginally by BARDOLINO (K Steyn) in the latter stages. d) At the 50m GREETING MY MASTER (R Fourie) had to ease off the heels of SOLOMONS SEAL (A Andrews), which was hanging in from the 350m and proved difficult to assist. e) SAN PEDRO, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Assistant Trainer A Alsop, acting on behalf of Trainer VH Marshall, was advised.
