THE STARTER REPORTED: a) DONQUERARI (C Maujean) kicked the back gates. Examined by the Veterinary Surgeon and passed fit to race. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED : a) WILLIAM RUFUS (C Zackey) over-raced in the early stages. b) PLAZA ACCORD (D Daniels) proved difficult to settle in the early stages and was steadied to avoid running onto the heels of DIANI (M Yeni) and ULTRA QUICK (A Mgudlwa). c) At approximately the 300m Jockey T Godden felt something amiss with CAPTAIN WARA and eased this gelding out of the race. d) Jockey C Maujean reported that he felt something amiss in the running with DONQUERARI (C Maujean) (2.40 lengths, 6/1 in the betting), the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. e) SHAMPOMPO SHAMPIZI (R Fourie), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer A Wright advised (DZ). JOCKEY / EQUIPMENT CHANGES : a) DIANI raced equipped with blinkers (advised 31.03.2024/07h19). b) Jockey J P v'd Merwe (DOWN BY THE RIVER) weighed out at 53.2kg, 0.5kg over the carded weight. THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED : a) DONQUERARI : Nothing obvious detected. b) CAPTAIN WARA : Not striding out left front, cut into left hind and over-reach left front.
