THE STARTER REPORTED: a) BENJAMIN (A Domeyer) was stubborn loading and had to be loaded riderless, causing a delay. b) MAJOR APOLLO (K Steyn) jumped inwards. c) DRAGON FLY (A Andrews) and TRIPPI'S SILK (R Khathi) were slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) EXPLOSIVE SPEED (C Zackey), WILLIAM WEST (S Veale) and GO IT ALONE (G van Niekerk) were inconvenienced shortly after the start when MAJOR APOLLO (K Steyn) jumped inwards sharply. b) Approaching the 400m GO IT ALONE (G van Niekerk), which showed a tendency to hang outwards, was steadied and directed inwards to avoid the heels of WILLIAM WEST (S Veale). c) Leaving the 200m EXPLOSIVE SPEED (C Zackey) and WILLIAM WEST (S Veale) brushed. d) The saddle on TRIPPI'S SILK slipped back in running, placing Jockey R Khathi at a disadvantage. This was confirmed on the video footage. e) Jockey A Domeyer reported that BENJAMIN took no interest in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. f) In view of the report from the Starter regarding BENJAMIN (A Domeyer), this gelding's starting stall certificate has been withdrawn and he is suspended for 7 days in terms of Rule 61.6.10 and until such time as he proves to be tractable to load with a companion on a race day. (Suspension dates: 01/05/2024 to 07/05/2024 inclusive). BENJAMIN may not be presented for re-passing during this period. g) SPEED RACER, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer B Crawford was advised. (SC) JOCKEY AND/OR EQUIPMENT CHANGES: a) Nil RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER a) Nil THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED: a) BENJAMIN - examined post-race. Nothing obvious detected b) KAAPSE KLOPSE - not striding out right front SCRATCHED: a) MIGHTY MAC - foot abscess. Rule 53.5 applied (declared 08h42 on 20240429)
