THE STARTER REPORTED: a) As the start was effected ARIVIDICIO (C Maujean) threw its head down, losing 3 lengths. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED : a) MIDNIGHT CALLER (*B Plaatjies) stumbled leaving the starting stalls. b) ARIVIDICIO (C Maujean) was restless and jumped awkwardly, which resulted in this gelding losing ground to the field. c) In the concluding stages JOSHUA HOTSNAKE (C Habib) was brushed in by RELEASE ME (M Yeni) which shifted in marginally away from the crop. A race review was called by a member of the Stipendiary Board which was followed by an objection being lodged by Jockey C Habib on behalf of the second placed horse JOSHUA HOTSNAKE against the winner RELEASE ME (M Yeni) on the grounds of interference in the concluding stages. After considering the evidence presented, the patrol videos of the race, and the distance between these two horses, the Board overruled the objection. In arriving at this decision, the Board was of the opinion that but for the above incident JOSHUA HOTSNAKE (C Habib), would not have beaten RELEASE ME, and therefore allowed the Judges' result to stand. Jockey Habib's deposit was refunded. d) Apprentice B Plaatjies reported that MIDNIGHT CALLER did not stride out freely in the running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. e) In view of the performances of ARIVIDICIO (C Maujean) (10.00 lengths, 4/1 in the betting) and GIAMBATTISTA (R Fourie) (6.30 lengths, 8/1 in the betting), the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. f) RELEASE ME (M Yeni), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED : a) ARIVIDIVIO : Coughing. b) GIAMBATTISTA : Nothing obvious detected. c) MIDNIGHT CALLER : Lame right front. Veterinary Certificate required prior to entry.
