THE STARTER REPORTED: a) SAGE KING (K Matsunyane) threw its head down as the start was effected, resulting in this gelding jumping awkwardly and stumbling leaving the stalls. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Jockey C Zackey reported that MAJESTIC PALACE, which over-raced in the early stages, made an abnormal respiratory noise in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. b) At approximately the 100m, NORDIC REBEL (G Lerena), was carried out and bumped out by OFFICER IN COMMAND (M Yeni), which shifted outwards. Jockey M Yeni was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7 in that he, as the rider of OFFICER IN COMMAND, failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to NORDIC REBEL (G Lerena) when he shifted out at approximately the 100m. Jockey M Yeni signed an Admission of Guilt and is suspended from riding in races for a period of seven (7) days. Suspension dates: To be advised. c) Jockey K Matsunyane reported that SAGE KING did not stride out freely in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. d) NORDIC REBEL (G Lerena), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer E Verdonese advised (MS). JOCKEY CHANGES: a) KING'S EXPRESS was ridden by Jockey P Strydom (declared 9 May 2024 at 10H02). RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER: None. THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED: a) MAJESTIC PALACE examined post race, nothing obvious detected. b) SAGE KING lame right hind. Veterinary report required prior to racing. Rule 49.7 applies. SAGE KING is required to perform a gallop to the satisfaction of the NHA veterinary department prior to his next engagement.
