LIQUIDITY (S Veale) broke through the stalls due to ROYS'S TAXI (W Kennedy) and LUPO (E Ngwane) kicking in the stalls.Consequently,no action was taken against LIQUIDITY.ALFONSA SPAGONI (K de Melo)stood awkwardly in the stalls and lost 1 length.Trainer M Dixon was advised to re-school this gelding.LUPO (E Ngwane)lost 1 length.PANZA (C Habib)jumped slow and thereafter refused to gallop(78.85 lengths).In view of this report,the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. Trainer I van Wyk was advised that should this gelding behave in a similar manner in future, he may be suspended.
At the 250m, ALFONSA SPAGONI (K de Melo) had to ease when awkwardly placed on the inside of CITY ROCK (*A Arries) which was hanging in from the 300m.Jockey W Kennedy the rider of ROY'S TAXI (2.60 lengths)reported that this gelding did not stride out freely in running.The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding.Jockey S Veale the rider of LIQUIDITY (12.85 lengths) reported that he felt something amiss with this gelding in running.The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine.Jockey D Dillon the rider of BELTON ROAD (AUS) (7.35 lengths) reported that this gelding took nointerest in running.The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine.Shortly before the finish, Apprentice A Arries'(CITY ROCK) crop broke. Trainer S Botha appeared before the Board and was questioned regarding the apparently poor recent form of CITY ROCK. In this regard, he explained to the Board that, this gelding's last two runs were in significantly stronger company as, he was unable to secure a run with CITY ROCK's rating in lower handicaps. Today however, which was his third run after a long lay-off, in the correct handicap division, this gelding produced a significantly better effort. Notwithstanding this explanation, Trainer Botha's attention was drawn to the Rules pertaining to in and out running and advised that should this horse not maintain consistent form going forward, it may be suspended. CITY ROCK (*A Arries) the winner, selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer S Botha advised .
