THE STARTER REPORTED: a) FUSHIMI INARI (G Lerena) was stubborn loading, causing a delay and thereafter jumped inwards. b) EIGER SANCTION (D Schwarz) jumped slow, losing one length. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) CELTIC RUSH (M van Rensburg) was hanging in from the 300m. Thereafter, CELTIC RUSH (M van Rensburg) shifted out away from the crop shortly before the finish. b) GREENBACKCURRENCY broke down in the concluding stages and was eased out of the race by Jockey W Marwing. This gelding was attended to on course by the Veterinary Surgeon. c) Jockey M Yeni reported that he felt something amiss with LEAO ALADO. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. d) Trainer D Nieuwenhuizen was questioned regarding the improved performance of CELTIC RUSH (M van Rensburg). He explained to the Board that this gelding had benefited from its two runs in February, which was followed by a lengthy lay-off. Thereafter, this gelding had shown improvement in his work. The Stewards noted his explanation but Trainer D Nieuwenhuizen's attention was drawn to the rule pertaining to in-and-out running. e) In view of the report from the Starter regarding FUSHIMI INARI (G Lerena), this gelding's starting stall certificate has been withdrawn and he is suspended for 7 days in terms of Rule 61.6.10 and until such time as he proves to be tractable to load with a companion. (Suspension dates: 17/05/2024 to 23/05/2024 inclusive). FUSHIMI INARI may not be presented for re-passing during this period. f) CELTIC RUSH, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer D Nieuwenhuizen was advised. (MS) JOCKEY CHANGES: a) None RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER a) REAL RELIEF raced without blinkers and with a compression mask (declared 15h14 on 20240509) b) REAL RELIEF raced with a tongue tie (declared 15h12 on 20240509) THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED: a) GREENBACKCURRENCY - fractured left hind fetlock. Humanely euthanised. A specimen was collected for analysis. Trainer WH Marwing was advised (Dr E Reynders) b) LEAO ALADO - examined post-race. Nothing obvious detected c) CELTIC RUSH - cast left front shoe SCRATCHED: a) CARNELO - elevated temperature. Rule 53.5 applied (declared 08h42 on 20240516) DISQUALIFIED / DECLARED NON-RUNNER: a) None OFFICIAL RESULT
