THE STARTER REPORTED: a) CHARLIE MALONE (C Zackey) and MISTER WHISTLE (K Minnie) were slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) CHARLIE MALONE (C Zackey) was continually held up for a clear run in the straight. While attempting to improve into a narrow run between CRUZADOR (S Naidoo) and NOTORIX (C Maujean) at the 100m, CHARLIE MALONE (C Zackey) made contact with the hindquarters of NOTORIX (C Maujean), which was turned inwards and, as a consequence, CHARLIE MALONE (C Zackey) had to be checked. The Stewards interviewed Jockey C Zackey regarding this incident and he conceded, on reviewing the patrol film, that he had been instrumental in this incident and that it had occurred as he had committed to the narrow run and had hoped that sufficient room for him to improve into would avail itself. The Stewards determined this to be a racing incident and took no further action. b) DUKE OF ORANGE (*N Nastili) was hanging in from the 200m. c) Jockey S Khumalo reported that SEATTLE RIPPER did not stride out freely in the latter stages. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. d) ARTURO, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer AC Greeff was advised.
