THE STARTER REPORTED: a) MAD WORLD (K Steyn) refused to load, causing a delay, and was withdrawn. b) SUMIKO (*DB Geerthsen) rushed the front gates in the starting stalls. c) VINTAGE CRYSTAL (S Khumalo), ALTA LEKKER (X Ndlovu) and BELLTOWN (S Naidoo) jumped slow, losing one length. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) After the running of Race 1, and in consultation with the Jockeys and the Course Manager, the official going was changed from good to good to soft. b) Light rain fell prior to and during the running of this race. c) Jockey S Naidoo (BELLTOWN) dropped his left-side rein at the 100m mark, which he only regained after the finish. d) Jockey C Habib reported that he felt something amiss with VENETIAN MOONLIGHT, which was hanging in in the latter stages. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly. e) SUMIKO (*DB Geerthsen) returned with a bilateral epistaxis due to an exercise induced pulmonary haemorrhage and is suspended, for a period of 60 days, from racing in any race under the jurisdiction of The National Horseracing Authority of Southern Africa in terms of Rule 93.1. (Dr E Reynders) f) In view of the report from the Starter regarding MAD WORLD (K Steyn), this filly's starting stall certificate has been withdrawn and she is suspended for 7 days in terms of Rule 61.6.10 and until such time as she proves to be tractable to load with a companion. (Suspension dates: 25/05/2024 to 31/05/2024 inclusive). MAD WORLD may not be presented for re-passing during this period. g) CATCH YOUR BREATH, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer AC Greeff was advised.
