THE STARTER REPORTED:
a) AXL (C Orffer) became restless as the start was effected and fly-jumped awkwardly leaving the stalls, losing two lengths.
b) VEGAS GOLD (L Mxothwa) was nervous in the stalls and rushed the front gates.
c) EUROPEAN SUMMER (R Khathi) and RENAISSANCE MAN (C Habib) were slow into stride.
d) FERRANDO (KA Brewer) stumbled leaving the stalls.
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED:
a) After the running of Race 3, Jockeys expressed concern that the track had deteriorated between races. While they were satisfied that the condition of the track would still be suitable for this race, they had concerns that should the track continue to deteriorate, the race meeting would be in jeopardy. This was brought to the attention of the Racing Operator.
b) Light rain fell prior to and during the running of this race.
c) The Stewards reviewed the start with regards to AXL (C Orffer) in stall gate 10 and were satisfied that to AXL (C Orffer) had not been impeded and took no further action.
d) Jockey K Minnie reported that TEATRO made an abnormal respiratory noise in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding.
e) Jockey S Khumalo reported that he felt something amiss with ACORN. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding.
f) Jockey C Habib reported that RENAISSANCE MAN did not stride out freely in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding.
g) Apprentice AR Al-Mansouri was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that as the rider of FIRST ORIGIN he misused his crop by striking FIRST ORIGIN more than 12 times (15) which was not warranted when considering the circumstances of the race. Apprentice AR Al-Mansouri signed an admission of guilt and was fined R7 500,00.
h) FIRST ORIGIN, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer GD Smith was advised. (LM)
