THE STARTER REPORTED: a) Fair start THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) FIREALLEY was selected for the taking of specimens for TCO2 testing. The first specimen revealed a level of over 35 TCO2. mmol/L. Trainer JVA Strydom was advised that, in terms of the Procedure for Total Carbon Dioxide (TCO2) analysis on Raceday, a second blood specimen would be collected. Trainer JVA Strydom was informed that the second blood specimen had revealed a level above the international threshold of 36 mmol/L and that consequently FIREALLEY was scratched from this race in terms of the provisions of Rules 72.1.23; 4.2.14 and 4.2.18. (Withdrawn at 14h55, 25/2 in the betting). FIREALLEY was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer JVA Strydom was advised (Dr E Reynders) b) At the 450m BRENDEN JAMES (S Khumalo) rolled out away from the inside running rail and made contact with BUSH TRACKER (L Mxothwa). Shortly thereafter BRENDEN JAMES (S Khumalo) was steadied briefly when close to the heels of INHERIT THE RAIN (R Fourie). Jockey S Khumalo and Trainer K Mitchley called for a race review. After reviewing the patrol film, Trainer K Mitchley, the trainer of the 2nd placed horse BRENDEN JAMES (S Khumalo) lodged an objection against the 1st placed horse INHERIT THE RAIN (R Fourie) on the grounds of interference at the 500m. The Objection Board, after giving due regard to the evidence put forward, reviewing the patrol films and giving consideration of the margin of 0,5 of a length between the two horses concerned at the finish, was satisfied that BRENDEN JAMES (S Khumalo) would not have finished ahead of INHERIT THE RAIN (R Fourie) had this incident not occurred and therefore overruled the Objection. Furthermore, the Stewards were of the opinion that the objection lodged by Trainer K Mitchley was unwarranted and declared her deposit to be forfeit. c) In view of the performance of CHERRY ANO (C Habib), which was hanging in in the latter stages, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. d) Jockey M van Rensburg reported that PASSAGE OF POWER made an abnormal respiratory noise in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. e) INHERIT THE RAIN, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer AC Greeff was advised.
