THE STARTER REPORTED:
a) DOWNTOWN DUBAI (S Khumalo) was stubborn to load.
b) MAGIC HAT TRICK (S Moodley), SAUVIGNON SAM (T Godden) and INTUITIVE SPIRIT (S Veale) lost 1 length.
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED :
a) Shortly after the start GOT THE FEVER (M Yeni) was squeezed out between CASTLE MEY (*S Hlengwa) and DOWNTOWN DUBAI (S Khumalo) which jumped in leaving the starting stalls.
b) At the 1300m CASTLE MEY (*S Hlengwa) and GOT THE FEVER (M yeni) were eased when awkwardly placed on the inside of FLYINGCOOL (C F Dicken) which commenced to over-race, was steadied off the heels of RHYDIAN (C Zackey) and rolled in.
c) At the 300m DOWNTOWN DUBAI (S Khumalo) broke down and was eased out of the race, dislodging Jockey Khumalo who was immediately taken to the medical centre. Jockey S Khumalo was incapacitated from weighing in. Acting in terms of Rule 66.2, the Board deemed his weight to be correct.
d) At the 300m MAGIC HAT TRICK (S Moodley) was eased when tightened between SAUVIGNON SAM (T Godden) and INTUITIVE SPIRIT (S Veale) which was switched in to avoid DOWNTOWN DUBAI (S Khumalo) which had broken down. As a result SAUVIGNON SAM (T Godden) shifted in away from MAGIC HAT TRICK (S Moodley)
e) Jockey C Zackey reported that RHYDIAN made an abnormal respiratory noise in the running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine.
f) CHESTNUT BOMBER (G Lerena), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer J J van Vuuren advised (DZ).
JOCKEY / EQUIPMENT CHANGES :
a) Jockey G Lerena (CHESTNUT BOMBER) weighed out at 56.9kg, 0.5kg over the carded weight (declared 25.05.2024/08h35).
b) GREATBALLOFFIRE raced equipped with blinkers and with fitted with alumites in front, unshod behind (advised 23.05.2024/11h16).
RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER :
a) SAUVIGNON SAM is a gelding : Gelded 11.01.2023 (Administrative error).
THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED :
a) CASTLE MEY : Mouth injury.
b) DOWNTOWN DUBAI : Left front pastern fracture. Humanely euthanized. Specimen taken for analysis.
c) RHYDIAN : Nothing obvious detected.
THE MEDICAL OFFICER REPORTED :
a) Jockey S Khumalo was stood down after this race with an ankle injury. Rule 25.12 applies.
