THE STARTER REPORTED: a) ETERNAL OPTIMIST (O Noach) got its head into the adjacent stall and had to be corrected. b) BIG POPPA (JP van der Merwe) jumped slow, losing two lengths. c) DESTINED TO DANCE (S Veale) jumped slow, losing one length. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) In view of the performance of BIG POPPA (JP van der Merwe), which raced with an awkward head carriage in the early stages and was hanging in in the straight, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. b) Jockey A Domeyer reported that he felt something amiss with AFRICAN TORRENT, which gave ground to the field from the 800m and was not persevered with in the straight. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. c) TOTHEMOONANDBACK, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer D McLachlan was advised.
